Young people are often getting rejected job applications because of their criminal records. This makes them feel shut out and excluded from society and inevitably forced back in to crime & alternative methods of making money. Widening the gap between sectors of society.
I can identify with these young people because I have been in the exact same situation as them. In fact, if it wasn't for me getting stabbed in a gang attack, I probably wouldn't be where I am today.
At the front end of the cycle, we should be identifying the targeted young people, and providing early intervention "positive" activities to combat social and educational disadvantage and to prevent young people embarking on criminality in the first instance.
And at the back end of the cycle, appropriate measures need to be put in to place to help ex-prisoners integrate back in to society, offering them opportunities, skills and training, which will not only benefit the individual but also the community they are returning to.
